Crime Scene Investigation

Ive watched criminal minds a few times and i absolutely love the job that the blond character Garcia does. Is this a real job? what would i have to study? Im in college right now and ive become interested in Management Information Systems (MIS) is this the type of job degree she has? Does anyone know anymore on any of those jobs?
I just saw on a couple websites that her job description is audio/visual technician. I feel like that isnt what she does though? is that correct?
