North Wales Police in Partnership with Forensic Science Service North Wales Police have been working with the Forensic Science Service to bring new scientific methods to bear on hate crime, in an effort to make detection of the perpetrators more effective. Hate Crime has notoriously been more difficult to deal with because of the nature of the crime. This initiative has focussed on the areas of forensic science that may be most beneficial. However, all forensic evidence is considered on its own merits when assessing a case. Forensic Evidence is routinely used to solve crimes from the more minor to the most serious of offences. This evidence can be anything left at the crime scene by the offender or anything removed from the crime scene. Every contact leaves a trace. Specialist DNA kits are now available to enable the early collection of DNA evidence from the spittle left at crime scenes. Paint can be collected and potentially linked to other similar offences. Documents can be analysed for handwriting comparisons, indented writing, fingerprints, DNA evidence and links to other similar documents sent elsewhere in the UK. Mobile Phone evidence can be analysed. Facial composites can be compiled if the victim has a detailed recollection of the facial features of the offender.
